Some major updates that customers should be aware of:
First off we have sadly had to change all UK postal services to Recorded Signed For. This means an additional 72pence for all UK mainland deliveries including both 1st Class and 2nd Class packages. The reasons for this are specifically down to the increasing number of Paypal Scams that we have been encountering within the UK (Customers claiming a non-delivery and having Paypal reverse the payment.) The rate of 'missing parcels' for Paypal customers was seven times higher than that for non-Paypal customers, clearly given that everything goes via the same service (Royal Mail) the chances of this being anything other than a deliberate scam by Paypal customers was extremely remote indeed. Whilst we understand that such scams are only perpetrated by a minority of Paypal users it has still meant losses to us of hundreds of pounds a year which has meant that we can no longer afford to keep using Paypal as a payment system without making some changes. Therefore as we are not covered by Paypal's Seller protection Policy unless we use a recorded service, then we have been forced to adopt the Recorded Signed For service for all of our UK mail and International Signed-For and Airsure only for International Mail. Secondly we are bringing our postage prices in line with the current Royal Mail prices, this will mean a small increase in the postage prices within the UK (and later Global prices). For the last few months we have been running the postage at a loss but have to now bring them up too date. Similarly all International mail now has to be sent by a Signed-For service; either International Signed-For or Airsure and standard Airmail and Surface Mail have had to be withdrawn as viable services. In the meantime the actual cost of International Signed-For has gone down slightly. We were loathe to make these changes, as any increase in postal prices obviously impacts our sales, however over 90% of our customers use Paypal to buy their items and removing paypal as a payment option was clearly not something that we could do. We do understand that this means that a minority of unscrupulous Paypal customers have made this necessary and that the overwhelming majority of customers are entirely legitimate. it is worth pointing out that the UK Royal Mail service is extremely efficient and reliable: in an average month we send out around 50 packages within the UK to people who have paid by Credit Card or other non-paypal methods and of those the average loss, or non-delivery, is just one package a month (at the most). In the same time though we can see 6 or 7 Paypals claims of non-delivery from the remaining 450 packages: seven times the failure rate. When these orders are often in the £50 -£100 region it becomes obvious that we simply cannot afford to let the situation continue. We are looking at alternative means of delivery within the UK and Europe and hope to be able to find cheaper traceable or signed-for services sometime in the near future. In the mean time please remember that if you receive a parcel that you think you have been charged too much for then please do not hesitate to get in touch with us - the postal pricing system is fully automated and cannot be checked on every package to ensure that it is doing its job correctly - if you have been over charged then let us know ASAP and we look into it with the aim of refunding any excess postal charges that are not correct. We've added a small new section to the Scratch Builders Paradise section: "Wire and Thread".
This is a collection of Lead Wire 0.2mm to 1.0mm thickness, copper wire (0.3mm and 0.5mm) and rigging thread (0.2mm, 0.5mm, 0.8mm and 1.2mm). ![]() There's also some extremely realistic stainless steel Towing Cable in thicknesses of 0.6 to 1.2mm. ![]() and lets not forget the Rigging Thread in 4 thicknesses! ![]() Put together you should be able to find one way or another of using these for all your needs for rope, hawser, towing cables and the like. Remember that the Rigging Thread makes for superb rope at many scales due to the way it is wound, and by colouring it with a thinned metallic paint you end up with excellent and very cheap "steel able". Lead and Copper wire are the easiest way to add lots of detail parts, inside engine or outside of sci-fi buildings, fantastical pulp engines and anything else you can think of! We will soon be adding a tutorial on making various "cables" from the historical through to 41st century, keep an eye out here for further announcements. Tuesday, April 29

Well I finally finished my "FAMO 88" for my Flames of War forces - heres a couple of pictures with some more in the gallery:
![]() ![]() This was a very rare vehicle with only about 16 ever built... some right at the start of the war and then an order for around 25-50 in late 1943 which resulted in about 12 being made and delivered in 1944... what happened to them is not recorded. It makes a nice alternative to the static 88 gun, we are simply using as a normal 88 though. Saturday, March 29

A brief idea of what we have coming out in the next year or so:
The Workshop "Fantasy" scenic elements - we've stopped producing the kits now and are going to replace them with a wide range of small scenic elements. These will include items such as crates, barrels, vats, windows, doors and so forth in a wide range of variations aimed at the 25mm-32mm market. Although they will be run under the banner of being "fantasy" many of them will work just a swell for historical settings and a few for Gothic horror and so forth. The intention is to add to the range as we go forward in time so as to keep increase variety and to provide the builder with small components that will save them time on repetitive elements in buildings - such as windows - or provide them with complex pieces of a standard not currently available on the market - such as complex church window frames. WW2 - We are now committing to extending the range of WWII 15mm scenery substantially over the next 2 years. Rather than focusing on large buildings as have other manufacturers, many of whom already produce excellent complete buildings, we intend to produce a range similar to that in outlook as the above fantasy elements - stowage, building components, windows, wall sections, furniture and so forth. We will, however, also be extending the fortifications lines and bringing some new ideas for Objectives Sci-Fi - Sci-fi has been somewhat neglected of late and this year we will be adding some new items for 25-32mm, including more medical apparatus/machines and some new street "decorations" - futuristic ATM and similar. After many, many requests we will also start off a new line of sci-fi elements for 15mm gamers: these will initially be large scale weaponry but will also eventually include smaller elements similar to those in our existing range and perhaps a few vehicles. Overall we want to concentrate on producing elements that fit well with our existing store products and our aim of providing the scratch-builder with all they need to make their own scenery, terrain and dioramas and, as always, in the highest quality pressure-cast polyurethane resin. The Store: We're planning to add Woodland Scenics products and Plastruct during this year as well as some new ranges of embossed styrene sheeting for building materials in various scales. We've already added the extremely elusive "Silflor" and will continue to hunt down those hard-to-get items and bring them under one roof for your ease of shopping. We are always on the look out for new items and materials so if you use something that you think we should stock, don't hesitate to drop us a line so that we can take a look at it and see if we can source them. We are soon to implement the beta version of our store search engine and are in the middle of re-arranging the website layout to make it easier to navigate and will also be adding new articles to the "Info" section of the site. And by the end of all of that we hope to continue to offer you a better, easier shopping experience with more choice and good prices; backed up by quality advice from having the experience of working with every single item that we sell. We sell it because we use it; we don't use it because we sell it. Jed & Nadine. Tuesday, March 11

As some of you may have noticed we have been out-of-stock of Testors Dullcote (spray) for almost two months or so now.
We have finally had a response as to why: Testors Dullcote (spray) contains Toluene; which is now banned within the EU. As such the "traditional" Testors Dullcote Aerosol can not be legally sold anywhere within the EU. Testors have today informed us that they are working on a new formulation of Dullcote (spray) but it may be another couple of months before it is done and able to be shipped out to the EU. We will announce when we have the new formulation in stock and do some testing to see if it maintains is excellent matte abilities, until then it seems sensible to avoid buying the aerosol from any other sources, as anybody selling it will be breaking the law. However, given that it has taken us almost two months to find out why though it seems likely that other retailers are not aware of the situation.

Please note that we will NOT be attending the Triples Wargames show.
Those who have attended this show will be aware that it is a sprawling affair over multiple buildings and levels with some very poor access. It also has a number of side rooms that are hard to find and can be completely blocked off by one person standing in a doorway. Last year we had such terrible placement that we probably saw less than 20% of the people attending the show, if that. The small room on the fifth floor was hot, stuffy, sweaty and virtually inaccessible to even those who managed to get to the fifth floor. All traders complained and some were moved, however others were not moved and suffered the consequences via drastically lower sales. Many of our customers told us afterwards that they could not even find our stand despite looking for up to an hour. As a consequence we had decided that the show was not viable unless we could be guaranteed better positioning and that such poor rooms were no longer given to traders, especially given that they were charged the same price for space as others in far better positions on lower floors. Despite an assurance that we would get placement in the main hall this year we have not, in fact, been given that. As such we have felt obliged to cancel this years attendance; the huge amount of work required for the show, plus traveling and accommodation, makes it economically unsound and given last years fiasco, and the broken promise of placement in the main hall, we have also decided that we will not be attending future Triples shows. This is areal shame as it is a show that we enjoy due to the great customers that regular attend....and Sheffield has some great restaurants that we will miss! At the end of the day though a show has to be economically viable and you cannot spend hundreds of pounds in travel, accommodation and stand prices to then be left in a poky side room which can hold about 20 people in conditions reminiscent of a run-down Turkish bath house. As and when Sheffield Wargames find a better venue, one that preferably provides an even playing field for all traders, then we will be happy to attend once more. In the meantime if you were hoping to see us at Triples then please accept our apologies.

We are very happy to announce that we know have the Silflor Grass Tufts in stock.
![]() Silflor tufts have taken the modelling world by storm over the last 5 years and are now widely recognised as one of the best scenic materials manufacturers in the world. One of their most popular products is pre-made tufts of grass in various lengths and colours from 2mm tufts to 6mm tufts. 2mm, 4mm and 6mm tufts shown against a 15mm figure. The tufts allow the modeller to rapidly make figures bases, dioramas or open area models with realistic grass tufts in a matter of moments - simply pull off the tuft from the backing material and glue it in place - it is that simple. For modellers in the UK getting hold of Silflor has always been a problem due to a virtual monopoly. As a result of this Silflor prices in the UK have been artificially inflated to the equivalent of £18.00-£20.00 for a full size sheet. Not only that but the Silflor has been cut down into smaller sections and transported without the proper semi-rigid box packaging meaning that the tufts often end up crushed and flattened. Well no longer is that the case: we sell FULL sheet sizes in the original boxed packaging, so as well as being able to save up to 30% of the price on Silflor in the UK you also get proper packaging to protect your tufts in the mail. A full size sheet of Silflor gives you hundreds of tufts. Semi-rigid box packaging helps prevent damage in transit: Our prices start at £12.60, a massive £5.40 saving and go up to £15.84 which still represents a saving of £4.16p. So if you want Silflor you know where to come...but grab it while you can as stocks are limited and re-supply is, sadly, not guarenteed. Tuesday, February 5

This pewter sheet is soft enough for taking rubbings. It is priced at £1.25 per sheet with each sheet being 0.152mm thick by 100 mm x 150mm

We have decided to cease all production of plaster-based kits including all Hirst Arts kits and those of our own.
In place of the kits we will shortly be producing a range of scenery components such as doors, window, boxes, barrels and so forth to enable you to create your own scratch-built structures. All of those components will be produced in pressure-cast polyurethane (non smelly!) resin which will then mean that we have no more plaster-based items on the store. Plaster-based items in other ranges, such as the sci-fi blast barriers, will also be stopped but replaced with new castings in resin. As such any current plaster-bases sets will be discontinued as soon as current stocks run out... so grab some whilst you can! Most of the kits can be found here

A few new Items for the start of November:
First off we now have the NWSL True Sander - this is a fantastic aid to anybody who is serious about making good-fitting wargames scenery and even more so to those making masters for reproduction. Simple but wonderfully effective it is a tool for ensuring all your edges are square and vertical and allows you to make very accurate sections for producing masters. The True Sander is priced at £28.00 and can be found on the Tools page here. ![]() We also have in the Microscale Decal solutions: Micro-Sol, Micro_Set and Liquid Decal Film. These probably won't need any introduction to most modellers as they are recognised pretty much as "the" solutions to use with decals for accurate placement, especially in awkward spots and on rough surfaces. All three products are priced at £2.50 ![]() We also have some of the Rvell Color Stop in which is a liquid compound that you can use to mask out difficult shaped and rough surfaced areas when painting. Color Stop is £2.49p. ![]() All four products can be found on the Decal page in Scratch Builders Paradise. And last, but not least, we also now stock Milliput Black ![]() which you can find on the epoxy putty page here. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
